Underwater archaeologists found a 9th-10th cent. fish-pot (a kind of a fish trap) in West Poland. The discovery was made during examination of remains of a Medieval bridge leading to the castle at the Ostrów Lednicki island. Krzysztof Derka, leading the team of experts from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, admitted that it is the only such find discovered through underwater excavations in Poland.
The trap is preserved in a good condition and contains remains of caught fish in a number of over 4 thousand. The fish-pot has a shape of a narrow, long basket measuring about 1.6 metres. The artefact is currently under conservation at the Museum of the First Piasts at Lednica.
