Construction workers in Warsaw (Poland) unearthed artefacts belonging to people living in buildings demolished by Germans during World War II. The find was made by accident and without archaeological supervision. Local residents notified the city’s Heritage Office that the digger is unearthing pre-war items. The works were held and the items secured by the archaeologists sent in by the Office. The investor, energy company RWE Stoen was was not providing sufficient archaeological supervision, as it turned out, due to the proper archaeologist not being present at the site.

The finds originate from early 20th cent. They are everyday items such as pottery, a metal vessel but also books, some of them in Hebrew, Yiddish, Russian and German.
