The 7th edition of the Prospekcja Małopolska project (Lesser Poland Prospection) project, involving aerial prospection of archaeological sites and historic monuments is planned for the end of June. Archaeologist Piotr Wroniecki, head of the project is planning to conduct aerial prospection in order to enhance the knowledge about the past of the region of the Nida river basin in southern Poland. The region is located on the border between the Małopolskie and the Świętokrzyskie voivodships.

So far the archaeologist produced a couple thousand of photographs locating over 300 sites of potential archaeological objects. They involve previously unknown vast prehistoric settlements, forgotten late Medieval villages, Medieval forts and fortified settlements from Neolithic and Bronze Age. The presence of underground archaeological structures is visible to the presence to cropmarks or soilmarks on the surface of the ground. Results can be seen on the projects site: archeolot.pl .

The current season of the prospection is a part of a larger project to study the hidden cultural landscapes of the loess highlands in western Małopolska region. It is partially financed by the National Science Centre. Prospection in 2016 will be focused in the region between Kraków and Pińczów, the geographical region described as the Nida river basin.
