Smuggle of numerous artefacts foiled

An Ukrainian bus driver tried to smuggle nearly 100 items of archaeological status through the border between Poland and Ukraine. The smuggle of almost 100 artefacts was foiled by Polish customs officers at the border crossing in Medyka. The objects were heading to one of the marketplaces in Warsaw. The bus driver said to have bought the objects on Ukraine and wanted to sell them in Warsaw. He hid them in his luggage. The customs officer found the artefacts while doing a routine luggage check.

Among the objects 76 arrow arrow and spear points were identified, but also daggers, coins and fish-shaped ornaments were identified. This is the second smuggle of such artefacts found by Polish customs officers. Recently, on the same crossing another Ukrainian was found with 183 archaeological items on , including also points, blades, rings and ancient tools. The artefacts will be forwarded to a museum designated by the local Heritage Office.
