Underground finds in Gdańsk and Gdynia

A basement filled with numerous stone decorations and a air raid shelter tunnel were among the finds made by archaeologists in two cities in North Poland. Archaeologists conducting supervision at the construction of a new gas pipeline along the Długie Ogrody street in Gdańsk discovered a buried basement filled with stone sculptures. The objects are dated to the 19th century and were probably hidden in 1945. Among the finds within the basement were numerous architectural ornaments and reliefs. They might have been hidden to prevent from being plundered during last moments of the World War 2.
