18th century time capsule from Town Hall opened

A recently discovered time capsule from a town hall in Brzeg, south-western Poland, has been opened. The artefacts found inside indicate that they have been stored there 200 years ago but the capsule contained also objects dated to 16th and 19th centuries.

The time capsule, in form of two metal tubes, was found in the tower of the town hall in the beginning of July by construction workers.  One of the tubes was created in 1789 by a master tinsmith, the second one by his son in 19th century. Both containers were recently opened and their content presented to the public today.

Among the finds are documents, of which the oldest is dated to the 16th century. It will undergo specialist analysis with use of UV light but at this point it was possible to determine that it contains the description of contemporary political relations. Other finds include goose feathers for writing,  commemorative medals and coins, and a 18th century town plan with later updated architectural changes. The objects from the time capsule will now undergo conservation.
