Artefacts of a deceased private collector of antiquities given to archaeologists

Israel Antiquities Authority received artefacts from a family of a man who collected numerous ancient objects but recently deceased. The man was a power station worker at the Orot Rabin Power Station in Hadera, West Israel.

Among the finds are a toggle pin and the head of a knife from the Middle Bronze Age, mortars and pestles, candlestick fragments from the times of 11th century Fatimid Dynasty, and an ancient hand grenade of a type used by the Crusaders, Ayyubids and the Mamluks.

The deceased man, Marcel Mazliah, collected the artefacts over the years at the shore of the Mediterranean. He worked at the coastal coal-fired power plant since 1973 and quietly collected the objects that were washed up from the sea.
