A follow-up to the discovery of a Bronze Age sword under a football field

Excavations continue on the construction site of the football field in Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland, where archaeologists have found a 4000-years-old sword made of bronze with a gold hilt. Now, the site revealed other archaeological features.

The archaeologists are now trying to carefully excavate and lift the sword to study it further in laboratory conditions. They suspect that there may be  two artefacts close to each other – a sword and a spear point. Another find from the excavations, which are now conducted in a broader area, is a circular archaeological feature. It might indicate that there was a settlement or a man-made structure nearby. The feature at this moment is roughly dated to the Iron Age, but further archaeological investigation is on its way.
