Archaeologists claim to have discovered remains of a structure measuring 23 by 9 metres that might have once been a royal hall or palace. It is suspected that this is the same palace that was refereed to by the Venerable Bede, a 6th century English monk known as an author and dubbed “The Father of English History”.

The site was located through aerial photography and geophysical survey. The discovered structure might be a large Anglo Saxon Hall, possibly a palace, but a royal settlement of very high status for sure. Archaeological finds from Rendlesham include about 4,000 items, including intricate metalwork, coins and weights, of which nearly 1000 are of Anglo-Saxon origin.
