A burst of water pipes washed out ancient sarcophagi in the Biga district of Çanakkale province, western Turkey. While repairing the pipes the workers discovered three sarcophagi that afterwards have been unearthed and examined by experts.
The discovery was made in the vicinity of the ancient city of Parion, in the area near Kemer village. Lids of two of three sarcophagi are said to have been damaged during construction works.The salvage excavations were conducted by the Directorate of Archaeology Museum. It is yet unknown how the objects are dated and who is buried inside.
