Construction site reveals Hellenistic burial chamber

A Hellenistic burial chamber was discovered at a construction site in Toptepe, Samsun province, Turkey. The structure is believed to be 2300 years old.

The chamber, situated at an archaeological site was discovered during a landscaping project that involved excavations of the area conducted by the Samsun Archaeology and Ethnography Museum. The discovered structure is an example of solid masonry. It consist of a 12-metre long and 2.5-metre wide arched corridor called dromos, measuring 2.8 metres in height. The structure is linked with the ancient Greek city of Amisos (modern Samsun) that was settled by Milesians in 8th century BC.
