Infra-red imaging revealed previously unreadable characters on wood strips dating back to 7th century. Such wood strips were standard writing material in ancient Japan. This new information states that the Persian official worked at an academy where government officials were trained. The experts state that this is the first time a person as far away as Persia was known to have worked in Japan during that period. Earlier studies suggested that there were exchanges between Japan and Persia as early as the 7th century.
