Bronze treasure trove discovered last year put on display in local museum

Trove of Bronze Age artefacts, including a necklace, two bracelets, four armlets and a double-bladed axe, discovered last year by a detectorist, were restored and put on display in the local museum in Kamień Pomorski, north-western Poland.

The artefacts were discovered last year by a detectorist searching for objects connected with military activity during World War II. Instead the man found bronze objects dated back 4000 years, possible intentionally deposited within the ground. He informed the local heritage office, which took care of the finds. Now, the conservation of the finds in finished and they have been put on display in the regional museum in Kamień Pomorski, Muzeum Historii Ziemi Kamieńskiej.

The objects were deposited in two pits about 3 metres apart. In the first one seven woman jewellery pieces were found, in the second a symmetrical double-bladed axe. The place of the discovery was not a scheduled site, known to the archaeologists. After the discovery it was listed in the national registry of the sites. Archaeologists identified the findings as weapons, and jewellery known from northern Germany, Denmark and Scandinavia, which rarely were found in Poland. The experts state that it is the first archaeological discovery of such kind after World War II. The exposition, of which these artefacts became a part now, consists also of other bronze trove, dated to 1500-700 BC, consisting of a chisel, symmetrical axe, spearhead and other smaller bronze objects.
