Archaeologists from the Leiden University are conducting research in the Caribbean, exploring the cultures and societies of the many indigenous peoples in the Caribbean region around 1500. The experts implemented traditional techniques such as excavations, as well as more advanced techniques of surveying areas using drones, where the terrain is less accessible. The drones provide pictures that can be turned into photogrammetrical models, revealing f. ex. a clear organisation of living space at the settlement sites, consisting of mounds and flat areas.
