Archaeologists discovered an inn complex during excavations in the ancient city of Assos, Çanakkale province, north-western Turkey. The complex was known from mentions in the ancient sources, but its location was so far unknown.

The Byzantine era inn complex is located behind the western gate of the ancient city. According to the ancient sources it was a place where people were accommodated and patients were treated. The archaeologists of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University discovered that the complex has its own bakery, kitchen, cisterns, and a chapel to pray. The structure is said to have collapsed due to an earthquake which damaged many buildings in the lower agora section of the city. Archaeological works, led by Nurettin Arslan, will focus on restoring the late ancient structures of the city. Other works at the city are aimed at unearthing the main roads of the ancient city and restore the ancient theatre, said to be one of the most beautiful in Anatolia.
