Ruins of ancient temple discovered in Sri Lanka

Remains of an ancient Gedige, a Hindu temple, was found during excavations near Serunuwara, at the East coast of Sri Lanka.

The temple ruins were unearthed during excavation conducted within the Sirimangalapura forest reservation in Serunuwara by the Archaeological Department. The remains are said to have been built during the Anuradhapura period (377 BC to 1017 AD). The brick structure, decorated with stone ornaments, covers nearly half hectare. The experts state that it was a previously unrecorded archaeological site.
