heavy rains flooding Israel for last few days have also damaged an ancient stone wall near the gate to the ancient city of Tel Dan. The structure was dated to the First Temple period (ca. 957-586 BC).

The destroyed wall is said to have been made of combination of the original ancient stones and reconstructed pieces. The site of Tel Dan contains the remains of ancient city that dates back 5000 years. Oldest settlements from the site are dated to the Neolithic, but during the Canaanite and Israelite periods a city rose at the site, which was excavated since 1966. The wall is believed to have collapsed after rain made the soil behind it expand and the soil pushed the wall until it collapsed. A conservation team is said to work at the site after Israel Nature and Parks Authority creates a restoration plan.
