A treasure hunter found a in Sherwood Forest, United Kingdom. The find dates to the 14th century and was discovered by an amateur metal detectorist.
The ring is made of gold and contains a fixed sapphire jewel. The ring also is covered with an engraved image of an infant Christ on one side and a female saint on the other. A regional finds liaison officer compared the precious stone used in the ring to the one on the tomb of former Archbishop of Canterbury William Wytlesey, who died in 1374, which served as the base for dating of the recent find.
