The sculpture of Aphrodite was allegedly looted from Libya, while the others were some artefacts and sculptures taken from Syria’s Palmyra and five of the confiscated objects originated from Yemen. The sculpture of Aphrodite’s head dates back to 1 BC, while the other two sculptures date back to before 3 BC from Palmyra, Syria. The authorities state that the artefacts were confiscated in Geneva’s free-trade ports between 2009 and 2010, even before the Arab Spring of 2011 or the existence of ISIS.
