The artefacts were seized in the end of 2015 after revealing their smuggle within a shipment of coal coming from Nuweiba port in Egypt. The artefacts were returned to Egypt as part of a joint agreement between the two countries on the recovery of artefacts and cultural property. The artefacts include pieces of an alabaster sculpture of a head, a small hand, and a group of stone statues and coins. They are said to be transferred to the Egyptian Museum after reconstruction and conservation.
