A marble sculpture of an ancient Roman noblewoman was found after a recent heavy downpours that fell in Ierapetra, South Crete.

The sculpture was found by a farmer who informed the Archaeological Service. The artefact depicts a Roman noblewoman of around 3rd century AD. According to the experts the find is incredibly beautiful and has great artistic value and might have decorated a mansion or a Roman tomb of that period. The find will be cleaned, maintained and returned to be exposed in the Archaeological Collection of Ierapetra, where once an ancient Greek and later Roman town of Hierapytna was located.
