Underwater archaeological investigation in Lake Van, Turkey, revealed a shipwreck that is believed to be a Russian military cargo vessel made in 1915.
The 100-years old shipwreck was found after 18 months of research in Lake Van. The cargo ship was used for military freight shipment. It sunk during a storm in 1958 and rests on the depth of 23 metres below the surface. The vessel measures about 40 metres in length and is served to be well preserved. The find is a first discovery of a sunken vessel from Lake Van, but so far archaeologist discovered three vessels dating to 1900s which sank in Turkey’s Bitlis region in which Lake Van is located.
