Over 200 silver coins found by detectorists

Researchers looking for military remains discovered as trove of around 200 silver coins dating to the Roman era in Kalkriese, Germany.

After a single silver coin of Augustus was found the researchers started to unearth many more which summed up to the incredible amount. The coins were identified as denarii from the time of the late Roman Republic – the early and middle reign of Augustus. The coins are in various state of preservation – some are hard to decipher while other are in mint condition. Experts stated that the coins had to be placed in the ground in the same time and formed a single deposit.
