Three people arrested for selling artefacts in Istanbul

Three people, including a foreign national were arrested by Turkish Police in Istanbul for allegedly selling 121 historical artefacts.

The artefacts included ones dating back to the Roman, Byzantium and Hellenistic periods. The suspects unlawfully excavated 121 ancient artefacts in Istanbul’s Zekeriyaköy district and tried to sell them. The individuals, two Turkish and one Syrian national, were stopped during a routine traffic controls in Zekeriyaköy district. The gendermarie found a gold ring, a pair of gold earrings, 69 silver coins, 34 gold coins, 12 gold earrings and two gold objects. The suspects were transferred to court and arrested.
