Archaeologists excavating a site in Googong, Australia, discovered the remains of a 19th century schoolhouse at an area scheduled for housing development.

Archaeologists discovered numerous artefacts, including pieces of rusted door hinges, roofing nails, stone walls and slate pencils are artefacts providing clues about a forgotten school at the site. Experts state that there were very few historical records about the site, but the finds, along with remains of a stone fireplace and flagging stones where the door used to be, seem to fit the thesis that a schoolhouse was built at the site in the 1880s.
