Ancient pot with a painted smiley-face found in Karkemish

Archaeologists excavating the are of the ancient city of Karkemish at Syrian-Turkish boarder, discovered a vessel with a hand-painted “smiley face”on its surface.

During excavations this season, the team found various ancient vases and pots in the necropolis are of the site. On one of the vessels archaeologists noticed a drawing resembling a smiley emoji. The vessel is a pitcher, dating back to 1700 BC, and was used to drink a sweet drink, called sherbet. Archaeologists recently finished their 7th season of excavations at the site which is going to open to public as an archaeological park.
