Online auction of 3000-year-old axe foiled

An inhabitant of Andrychów, South Poland, was detained after an attempt of illegal selling a metal axe at an Internet auction. The age of the artefact was confirmed as being at least 3000 years old.

The man claimed the bought the artefact online and has already sold it. Police officers found the buyer and searched his house finding the artefact. An expert identified the object as a real Bronze Age axe, possibly being made between 1200-1000 BC. Both men face charges of 3 years prison for illegal trade and possession of archaeological artefacts.
