Branded pottery and terracotta unearthed in ancient city

Archaeologists unearthed samples of terracotta artefacts and mosaic pieces with embossed letters “ANT” during excavations of the ancient city of  Antiochia ad Cragum, Southern Turkey.

According to the researchers the artefacts signed with letters “ANT”attest to the fact that the city had a brand value, as the letters possibly inform about the wares being manufactures in Antiochia. The stamps we found on ceramics and confirm that they were produced in the city. It is supposed that the place was one of the significant production centres which had successfully created their own brand in the Mediterranean. All the artefacts are around 2000 years old. Meanwhile, Antiochia ad Cragum was founded by Antiochus IV Epiphanes around 170 BC. The surface of the ancient city covers an area of some 30 hectares. Archaeologists also unearthed the parliament building in the city. It will be completely excavated this year.
