Evangelical graves unearthed while searching for soldiers fallen in 1939

Researchers conducting thorough exhumations in the area by the parish church in Chojnice, Northern Poland, in search for Polish soldiers fallen during German Invasion of Poland in 1939 discovered some Evangelical graves but did not locate the soldiers’ grave.

The excavations were conducted in the area pointed by an eye-witness and picked by a local historian, Andrzej Lorbiecki, who initiated the search. The fieldworks lasted few days but did not result in unearthing the remains of fallen Polish soldiers. Archaeologists, however, managed to locate over a dozen skeletons of Evangelicals who were buried at the site.
