Large concrete swastika uncovered at construction site

Construction workers clearing an area at the Hein-Klink-Stadion in Hamburg, Germany uncovered a huge swastika made of concrete, dating back to the 1930s.

The structure was discovered by a mechanical digger operator under a layer of grass and dirt during preparation of the area for construction of new locker-rooms. After a research of the local archives it was revealed that the structure was probably built after Hitler’s rise to power in the 1930s when the stadium’s construction was finished, as over 1200 workers were hired by the Nazi state at the site. After the war the swastika remained there until it became covered with dirt, overgrown by grass and forgotten. Local officials plan to remove the structure to prevent so-called neo-nazi tourism. The swastika is to be cut into smaller pieces and moved.
