Paleolithic Venus figurine found in Croatian island’s cave

Archaeologists have found an artefact that is believed to be a Neolithic Venus figurine, in the Vlakno Cave on the island of Dugi Otok, Croatia.

The artefact has been discovered by archaeologists of the University of Zadar led by Dario Vujević. The artefact is said to have been found in a layer dating to the Upper Palaeolithic, around 15000 years ago. The figurine is now with conservation, after which it will be scientifically examined before being presented. The Vlakno cave has been known for previous finds, such as  the remains of the oldest Dalmatian man.
