In Gniezno cathedral in Western Poland a number of ca 1500 documents dated to Medieval times have been found. Its size is said to be the third collection of such volume after the archive in Gdańsk and Wrocław, the historians of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań say. The documents are currently undergoing investigation in The Archdiocesan Archive in Gniezno.
Most of the books and documents are in a bad state, after of years of exposition to fungus and insects. The discovery was made during a larger project aimed at documenting the written resources of the cathedral library.
