A cannon was discovered by construction workers in Gdańsk, Poland while conducting works at the Motławska street. The find weights a ton and is dated to 17th century. Archaeologists from the local Heritage Office took care of the find.
Such cannons were used in 17th century not only as weapons but also as ship ballast. The location of the find, being close to the wharf points to that application of the artefact as the cannon’s barrel seems to be damaged. Interesting is that until now such finds were made underwater and this time the cannon was found in the ground beyond underwater context.
