Excavations of the ancient city of Zhenghan in Xinzheng, Henan province, China, revealed the first city gate found at the site.
The city gate was the first such structure unearthed after years of excavations. It is said to be well preserved with a clear layout. Archaeologists consider it a rare find among other discoveries from the unearthed ancient cities of the Spring and Autumn (770-476 BC) and Warring States (475-221 BC) periods. Zhenghan served as a capital for 539 years. This newest discovery is considered significant o the research of ancient city defence systems.
