A metal detectorist, discovered remains of a 17th century pistol, while surveying a St Aubin’s Bay at the Channel Island of Jersey.
The weapon is said to be largely intact. According to the experts it dates to the times of the English Civil War during the 17th century. It is said to have an unusual complex wheel-lock mechanism – typically found on pistols from the 1600s. It is believed that the pistol sunk being accidentally dropped by an officer who was boarding a ship. X-ray analysis will be used to uncover more of the weapon’s secrets.
