Archaeologists discovered remains of a 16th century ship that sunk in Pensacola Bay, West of Florida, USA. The wreck is one of the ships of a Spanish colonisation expedition sunk by a storm in 1559.
Archaeologists discovered and documented at least 50 Upper Palaeolithic cave paintings, dating even 14000 years ago. The find is located within Armintxe cave under a building in the centre of Lekeitio in the Basque country, Spain.
Spain’s first Bell Beaker culture’s earthwork enclosure was discovered by archaeologists. The structure, composed of concentric rings of earthwork is dated to 2600-2200 BC.
After 3 weeks of excavations of the Empúries site on the Costa Brava, Spain, a ceramic vase containing 200 silver denarius dating from the 1st century BC was found. Also 24 amphorae of wine have been discovered in the cellar of an ancient house, a simpulum (bronze slab to extract wine) and two bracelets.
A series of prehistoric cave paintings has been uncovered in the Basque Country (Northern Spain). The paintings include those of bison, horses and goats. They were discovered by archaeologist Diego Garate at a depth of 300m in the Atxurra caves.
While carrying out routine work on water pipes in southern Spain construction workers have found 600 kilos of ancient Roman coins. Dating back to the late 3rd and early 4th cent., the bronze coins were found inside 19 Roman amphoras in the town of Tomares near Seville.
