A forest ranger discovered some unexploded ordnance in a forest near Sierpc, Central Poland. After informing the local Police sappers conducted excavations at the site, unearthing over 2000 bombs and missiles dating back to World War 2.
Archaeologists conducted a non-invasive survey with use of a GPR (ground penetrating radar) prior to start of a new season of excavations in Sierpc aimed at uncovering the remains of a Medieval castle.
Archaeologists working on the site of a forgotten Medieval castle in Sierpc, central Poland, were able to uncover remains of the castle’s walls and fortification and date its creation. The castle is said to have been built between 15th-16th century in place of prior settlements dated to 12th and 13th centuries.
